A video has emerged of the minister of interior Mai Fatty calling Foroyaa reporter Kebba Jeffang a “PDOIS militant” before a mob-style attack on the journalists by his supporters on Sunday.

Fatty, who also heads the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), is seen and heard telling Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), that he is a “PDOIS militant” before Darboe responds to a question from the journalist.

The People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) is a political party headed by Mr. Halifa Sallah.

After Fatty’s comments at a “press conference” at the UDP offices in Manjai Kunda on March 5, 2017, his and Darboe’s supporters attacked the journalist – tearing his shirt and inflicting bruises on his body.

“They came as a group (men and women) to attack me; one woman used her finger nails to scratch around my neck leaving brushes on me,” Jeffang said. “They tore my shirt at the scene. I suffered internal shoulder pain too.”

In reaction to the unacceptable attack on the journalist many Gambians on social media (Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp) have called on Fatty to resign as Minister of Interior.
