Daily Observer Editor Alagie Jobe has been in State custody since his arrest in February 2013

The case of Daily Observer’s Deputy Editor-In-Chief and his co-accused Mbye Bittaye did not proceed as scheduled when the case resumed on Wednesday, July 31.

Neither the judge nor the state counsel was in court at the scheduled time.

However, the counsel for the accused, Ebrima Jah who was present in court, said the judge, Justice Nkea was in meeting. He said the case has been adjourned till October 9 this year.

The case was scheduled to resume on Wednesday for the defense counsel to cross-examine the prosecution’s second witness, Baturu Cessay, a co-tenant of Jobe.

The Editor is standing trial on a five-count charge of making an act with seditious intention, seditious publication, and possession of seditious publication, giving false information to public servant, and reckless and negligent act.

While his co-accused, Mbye Bittay is facing a single count of making preparation to do act with seditious intention.

They have both pleaded not guilty.

Jobe’s lawyers have made several attempts to secure his release from State custody since his arrest on February 7, 2013.
